History of Yacht Charter

Many people wonder how luxury yachts and yacht charter came about. As a matter of fact, King Charles II is the man whom history credits as the first to introduce yachting to the world at large. Yachts were never actually thought of as a luxury mode of transportation prior to this. Interestingly enough, the Dutch used these yachts as a means of chasing pirates on the high seas.

Yacht charter took a surprising turn, then, when the King used a yacht to return to England. Right afterwards, Charles II decided to keep the yacht for pleasure, and a new leisure activity was born. Actually, yacht charter proved quite useful when World War II occurred; French and British soldiers were ferried to a larger ship by personal yacht owners.

The Gilded Age

Occurring during 1865 and 1901, the Gilded Age refers to the wealthy upper class of the United States, who chose to show their wealth through yacht charter, yachting clubs and other luxury events. While these yachts were more suited for sailing, they were definitely luxurious and elegant. Yachting only continued to increase tremendously in popularity after the turn of the century, and when the carbine engine was invented a whole new string of yachts emerged.
